The evolution of Messenger Chat box and it's User Experience

The evolution of Messenger Chat box and it's User Experience

Modern instant messaging and SMS both began their march to prominence in the early and mid-1990s.

The difference between the two is subtle: SMS (the acronym for “short service message”) allows mobile phone users to send each other text messages without an Internet connection, whereas instant messaging enables similar functionality via the web.

The first SMS message was sent over the Vodafone GSM network in the United Kingdom on December 3, 1992, with the words “Merry Christmas.” Israeli firm Mirabilis released the first widely used online messenger, ICQ (short for “I Seek You”), in 1996.

However, when we fast forward to today's era of 2022, we can all attest to the fast evolution of the messager app journey.

Currently, the number of messager app on the world today are too numerous to mention, this is because we experience new app technology rising every week, with new features and different experience.

Therefore, as part of our final project our the side Hustle internship, we were given one final project

Design a Direct Messaging app, profile, or chatbot. Consider the parties involved in the messages, images, placement, and context of the messages. It could be for social purposes or customer support

This is one of those few projects where the User Interface has been top notch. Also the UX design must be precise and accurate.

As usual, the team was super happy and excited about it. It is the final project, so it has be the best.

In the process of designing the UI of the chat app, we understood that there are at least 2 types of chat messager app.

Cooperate App

Social App

Cooperate App talks about the various dedicated chats box used by companies or organisations to chat with their customers or audience. So of these kind of chat box include those ones operated by website customer service representative.

They are not stand alone app. They're always embedded within the website system for easy access to customers.

While the Social app is the stand alone app that allows friends and family. Examples are the very popular WhatsApp messenger, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more.

Nevertheless, aa a team, we were able to come up with a blend of both.

Some of our design mock-ups are seen below.
